Man arrested in stabbing at a Norfolk library

Norfolk police say a man was arrested for assault Tuesday night at a library in the Mermaid City.

At 7:30 p.m. Norfolk police responded to Pretlow Library, located at 111 W. Ocean View Avenue, in response to reports of a stabbing.

Officers found a male victim when they arrived on scene. They say he was leaving the library when he was stabbed by a male suspect. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, and suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Police say the suspect returned to the library following the stabbing incident, where he stayed until officers arrived.

The suspect has been identified as 52-year-old  Thomas Marshall Hamilton of the 100 block of Balview Avenue.

Hamilton was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with Felonious Assault and remains in the Norfolk City Jail at this time. 
The motive for the stabbing remains under investigation.
