Teen identified in Oceanfront convenience store robbery

Virginia Beach police are investigating a robbery and shooting at the Oceanfront.

On Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at approximately 12:59 a.m., Beach police received a call from a victim who works at the 7-Eleven store located at 3908 Atlantic Avenue, stating a suspect had attempted to rob the business.

Investigators learned the suspect entered the store and displayed a firearm. The suspect demanded money and the victim walked to the register. The victim retrieved his own weapon and pointed it at the suspect. The suspect appeared to make a threatening movement toward the victim. The victim fired his weapon at the suspect and the suspect ran from the business.

The victim was not injured, and immediately called 911.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., police were notified that a man had walked into a local hospital with a gunshot wound. The injuries are now considered non-life threatening. Investigators have determined this man is the same person responsible for the 7-Eleven robbery and that he sustained the gunshot wound during the robbery.

The suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Blake Christian Richardson, of the 1100 block of Bay Colony Drive. He is charged with Attempted Armed Robbery, Abduction, two counts Use of a Firearm and Wearing a Mask.

Richardson remains hospitalized.
